description/mission statement:
A lot of thought goes into forestry management. Forests grow slowly and you can’t simply cut down any old tree at any old time. Only those trees that can be replanted should be cut down. This is known as “ sustainable ” forestry management. It is important to think of future generations :
they too will want to enjoy living forests with trees of all ages.
There is a difference here in this category of forests. There are National Forests and there are individual State Forests. Please be aware of that difference.
The Forest Service was established in 1905 and is an agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Forest Service manages public lands in national forests and grasslands, which encompass 193 million acres.
My goal is to document with information and pictures, the forests of the world. This category is separate from the National Parks as the National Parks does not accept National Forest submission. This category will accept NATIONAL forests (listed under the US National Forest page) and/or STATE forests which people can submit IF they can give me a website stating it is a STATE forest. National Forests can also be found in other countries so please do not hesitate to submit those either. This is not a United States only waymark.
