"Por inúmeras vezes, José de Anchieta e Manoel de Nóbrega
estiveram nesse local para tratar de assuntos diversos. Em suas
andanças, os jesuitas aproveitavam o tempo para catequizar os índios
a quem defendiam da crueldade de alguns colonizadores que
desejaram, inclusive, escraviza-los. Entre as varias visitas desses
famosos iesuitas em Bertioga destacam-se.

- 1563: Apos permanecerem por 5 dias no Forte São João, Nóbrega e Anchieta partiram de canoa com Francisco Adorno para apaziguar os
tupinambas que estavam em lperoig (Ubatuba) em uma concentracao
de 20 mil guerreiros prontos para atacar Bertioga, Santos e São Vicente.

I563: Nóbrega deixa a aldeia e passa por Bertioga em direcao a
São Vicente para acertar os termos de paz entre índio e colonos.
Anchieta oferece-se para permanecer como reféns de índios
enfurecidos em Ubatuba. Finalmente, depois de meses de espera e
com a propria Vida correndo grande risco, Anchieta consegue
convencer o mais aguerrido de todos os chefes, o temível Cunhambebe. Juntos, partem de canoa, de Ubatuba acompanhando por alguns guerreiros e chegam a Bertioga em 30 de setembro para selar a paz.

1565: Por duas vezes, Nóbrega e Anchieta vieram a Bertioga. Ente outros feitos Nóbrega ajudou a fundar o Collegio de São Paulo de Paratinga em 1554, em torno de qual nasceria a cidade de São Paulo e ajudo de construir a cidade de Salvador. Nóbrega foi um religioso estadista que exerceu sua fundacao instutional criando collegios e aldeamentos.


Anchieta promoveu a construcao um hospital para abriga centenas de doentes que deu origim de Santa Cara do Rio de Janeiro A sua obstinada dedicado a cause indigena e aos próprios colonos fez com que se tornasse uma figura idolatrada sendo considerado o santo da colonizacao brasileira.

A Anchieta são atribuidos diverso milagres, inclusive um ocorrido na Capela de Santo Antônio do Guaibe (ruinas do outro lado do canal de Bertioga) conhecido como o "Milagre das Luzes."

1565: Nóbrega and Anchieta twice came to Bertioga. Among other achievements Nóbrega helped found the Collegio de São Paulo de Paratinga in 1554, around which the city of São Paulo would be born and helped to build the city of Salvador. Nóbrega was a religious statesman who exercised his instutional foundation creating colleges and villages.


Anchieta promoted the construction of a hospital to house hundreds of patients who gave origin to Santa Cara of Rio de Janeiro. Its obstinate dedicated to cause indigenous and to the settlers themselves made that it became an idolized figure being considered the saint of the Brazilian colonization.

The Anchieta are attributed various miracles, including one occurring in the Chapel of St. Anthony of Guaibe (ruins on the other side of the Bertioga Canal) known as the "Miracle of Lights."
