The country surrounding Tallong was well known for its apple orchards with the first trees being planted in the 19th century. Apple production declined after World War II & the 1965 Chatsbury bush fire saw the majority of orchards destroyed. Only one family, the Watlings, chose to continue & they had a Big Apple above their shed.
The current Big Apple is a facsimile of the original & is located in the grounds of Tallong Memorial Park.
