This war memorial was erected outside the gates of Forsbury public park in 1932.

The memorial is in the form of a simple shaft on four-stepped base. Corner stones provide mounts for floodlighting.

The memorial was unveiled on 27th July 1932 and attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire. There is an inscription on the base of the shaft.
TO THE HONOURED MEMORY OF THE
MEN OF READING AND BERKSHIRE
WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR KING AND
COUNTRY DURING THE GREAT WAR
There is another inscription above the first one that was amended after the Second World War.
