The Municipal Building / City of Madill is located in a one-story brick building with a flat roof. The entrance facing Overton Street has double glass doors with sidelights and four narrow display windows. This building offices the Mayor and administrative offices. A portion of the building also houses the fire department.
Madill is the country seat of Marshall County. It is located 25 miles southeast of Ardmore, and about 17 miles north of the Red River. We noted a great deal of traffic, especially trucks going through Madill. It is at the junction of several U.S. and State highways which run through town. The town of Madill was first settled in 1900 and named for a railroad attorney, George A. Madill. A post office was established in 1901, and the first school was opened in 1903. Farming and ranching were the primary sources of economy, and later a small oil boom in 1924. Today, there are several manufacturing factories in town, and Madill's proximity of Lake Texoma brings recreational enthusiasts. Madill is known for its annual Sand Bass Festival in June.
The town has a Mayor and five Councilmen who meet the second Tuesday of each month, and has a City Manager. The administrative offices are open Monday to Friday from 8:00-5:00.
