The main railways station of Lima was inaugurated in 1912, located close to Plaza de Armas and the Presidential Palace. Its formal name was Estacion de Desamparados.

In 2009 the station ceased operations and the space was wonderfully converted in a cultural center dedicated to Peruvian literature, including the library "Biblioteca Mario Vargas Llosa".

The station was originally named after the orphanage and church which used to exist on the spot, before the urban redesign in which resulted the construction of the station.

It has a facade in style neoclassical and inside there are plenty of iron structures and lots of stain glass.
Year photo was taken: 1924
