[FIN] Taiteilijaprofessori Laila Pullisen Ikaros-veistos viittaa antiikin Kreikan tarustoon: ateenalainen keksijä Daidalos valmisti itselleen ja pojalleen Ikarokselle siivet liitääkseen pois vankilastaan Kreetan saarelta. Isänsä varoituksista huolimatta Ikaros lensi liian lähelle aurinkoa, jolloin tämä syöksyi mereen kuumuuden sulattaessa siipien vahan. Taivaisiin tavoittelun ja lankeemuksen merkityksien lisäksi Pullisen teosta voidaan tarkastella materiaalisista lähtökohdista. Suomen eturivin kuvanveistäjiin kuuluvan taiteilijan graniittiteoksessa kohtaavat samaan aikaan keveys ja raskaus, kiiltävän sileä sekä sulkamaiseksi uurrettu, rosoinen pinta.
[EN] Artist Professor Laila Pullinen’s sculpture of Icarus refers to an ancient Greek legend: the Athenian inventor Daidalos made wings for himself and his son Icarus to untie from his prison on the island of Crete. Despite his father’s warnings, Icarus flew too close to the sun, causing this to plunge into the sea as the heat melted the wax of the wings. In addition to the meanings of the pursuit and fall to the heavens, Pullinen's work can be viewed from a material point of view. In the granite work of one of Finland's leading sculptors, lightness and heaviness, a shiny smooth and a feather-grooved, jagged surface meet at the same time.
