"At the end of the Ancien Régime, the engineers in charge of the town's restoration work planned to rebuild, at the eastern end of the old basin, the old building which was called the" town house " then strongly degraded.
The implementation of this project was delayed due to the events of the Revolution. It was not until 1830 that the plans for a new town hall, designed by the architect Fontaine were approved. The work was completed in 1837 under the direction of the architect Hagron.
The town hall is a representative example of the public architecture of the July monarchy. It is a massive construction, with two levels of elevation, and very sober. The staircase arouses a certain interest with its straight flight at rest and the gallery which surrounds it supported by eight Doric columns. "

"A la fin de l'Ancien Régime, les ingénieurs en charge des travaux de restauration de la commune envisagent de rebâtir, à l'extrémité est du vieux bassin, le vieil édifice que l'on nommait « maison de ville » alors fortement dégradé.
La mise en oeuvre de ce projet fut retardé en raison des évènements de la Révolution. Il fallut attendre 1830 pour que les plans d'un nouvel hôtel de ville, conçus par l'architecte Fontaine soient entérinés. Les travaux s'achevèrent en 1837 sous la direction de l'architecte Hagron.
L'hôtel de ville constitue un exemple représentatif de l'architecture publique de la monarchie de juillet. Il s'agit d'une construction massive, à deux niveaux d'élévation, et d'une grande sobriété. L'escalier suscite un intérêt certain avec sa volée droite à repos et la galerie qui l'entoure soutenue par huit colonnes d'ordre dorique."
