This historic tree is located in Dunnville, Ontario in a Waterfront Park near the Dunnville Farmer's Market. The Norway Maple was designated a heritage by Forests Ontario because it is on the original site of the Dunnville Hydro Electric Commission started in 1884.
In 1885, Dunnville was one of the first places in Canada to receive electric lighting. The tree was also once on the shore of the Feeder Canal which fed the Welland Canal, which has since been filled in.
The plaque was placed by Heritage Haldimand, Dunnville Horticultural Society and Haldimand County.
