The old parish church, dedicated to Santa Baia (Olaia or Eulalia), was built in the 11th century and still preserves some remains of its Romanesque origins. Modified several times over the centuries, it ceased to function as a parish church in 1971 (affected by the reservoir), at which time the celebration of masses was moved to another more modern church located next to the main road. Currently the doors are open for a wedding and for the celebration of the San Bieito procession (July 11). On the door we can see an inscription that indicates that the place was considered a "Sacred Refuge". It is a privilege that was granted in the Middle Ages to some churches, giving them the power to host even thieves, murderers and debtors without anyone being able to take any action against them while they remained inside the temple.
His transfer was considered but it was never carried out, and thankfully, since he endures stoically over the years. Her cemetery did not suffer the same fate, the level of the waters affected the buried graves, and the mortal remains were transferred to the new cemetery, at the entrance of the town. Today, it opens once a year, for the celebration of the festivities in honor of San Benito, in mid-July. Also, sometimes, weddings and communions are organized.
