Take an old office building. Restore the original windows. Expose the wood and brick. Add metal and glass. Remove portions of three floors to create a soaring lobby. Then fill two galleries with rotating local and contemporary art works. This is New Orleans’s Contemporary Arts Center, and it’s worth visiting for the restoration job itself. The exhibits, presenting works showcasing local artists and art that is ‘vital to rebuilding New Orleans’s artistic community,’ are just an added bonus. An hour or so here is an hour well spent. The museum also presents other forms of art, including space for the performing arts.
