Stretching the length of the building, this mural paints a picture of life in Duncan in the 1950's. Duncan has a population of approximately 800 who are dependent on the ranches and mines in the area.
Beginning on the right two mounted cowboys watch the Greyhound bus roll past a red brick building with rooms for rent. Next in view is the Big Three market and the Big Three Store Farm Equipment. In front of the store a 1949 Woody Ford wagon is towing a silver trailer. Above the store a stylized eagle holds a sign proclaiming Domum Dulce Domum with red, white and blue bunting. Below the bunting is 1950's DUNCAN. Next to the Big Three is Clark's Grocery Market and the back side of the Train Depot. A police patrol car is parked next to the train depot. Next to Clark's is a Texaco station and the Little Bar. Next over is the Duncan Mercantile Company with a horse drawn wagon full of pumpkins in front. To the front of the picture is a storage building and a few train cars. We can see up Main St. to the Post Office, Simpson Hotel, Shoe Repair and 5 & Dime store. A 1950's Hudson is prominent on the street. The Bonnie Heather Inn and bar is next into view with a Chevron station in the foreground along with a steam locomotive pulling the train cars. Next to the Bonnie Heather is a Drug Store and the Duncan Theatre with a tiny Greyhound station in the foreground. Next to the theatre is Al's Barbershop, the Skylark Cafe and Dr. Lovett's Office. In the foreground is a Mayflower Transit Company truck in pink and a late 50's car with tall tailfins. Next to Dr. Lovett is Bell Telephone, there was only one then, and the Deluxe Cafe. In front of the Deluxe is a horse drawn wagon full of hay. Across the next street is Merrell Motors, a Ford dealership, and a stately brick home.
And thus was life in the 1950's in Duncan, as the artists remember it.
