Mable L. Tucker was 101 years old at the time of her death.

Obituary

"Mable Tucker peacefully left this life December 29, 2020, from Cañon City, Colorado.

Born in Laramie, Wyoming April 3, 1919, Mable became the third child of William Ira Allen and Ida Signa June (Hansen) Curtis. In 1927 the family relocated to Evanston, Wyoming and a momentous move occurred in 1930, when they headed to the Wet Mountain Valley in Colorado and settled in Silver Cliff. Mable graduated from Custer County High School in 1937 and won a scholarship to a year-long secretarial course. An avid dancer all her life, Mable met LaMoyne Alexander Tucker at a dance and the couple married at her parent’s home in Silver Cliff, September 25, 1941. While he was overseas with the Army in WWII, Mable went to work for the Soil Conservation Service and moved to Littleton, Colorado. After the war they returned to the Wet Mountain Valley and welcomed their first son in 1947. When LaMoyne started work at the cement plant in Portland they moved to the company town and there the second and third sons joined the family. About 1966 Mable and her family moved to the well-remembered house on Hardscrabble Creek.

Mable was a remarkable woman, marked by great patience and love. She opened her heart and home to many, caring for more children than we know and influencing many people for the better, while always reminding us it is better to be silent if we can’t say something nice. Mable embodied kindness. In her long life she always welcomed every-day adventures with humor. She inherited a gift for hospitality from her mother and grandmother and loved cooking and baking, including delicious Norwegian goodies like krumkage & ebelskivers. Her hands were usually busy, crocheting, cleaning, gardening, canning, or playing the piano. Mable chose to look at the best in people, overlooking faults and making time for everyone.

Mable was preceded in death by her adored husband LaMoyne; eldest son Doug; siblings Allen (Jack), Clea, and Evettes (Bud); along with her siblings-in-law, Bernice, Tony, and Emma. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her remaining family: daughter-in-law Kathy; sons and their wives Allen & Virginia and Harry & Laura; grandchildren Renea & Wesley, Cheryl & Rob, Maria & Gene, Katie, Josh & Lindsey, Cindy, Jerry, Jay & Rebecca, and John; 7 great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren & great-grandchildren; and all her nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held January 8, 2021 at New Hope Cemetery, Wetmore, Colorado."
