Ippolito Cascarelli immigrated from an impoverished region of Italy to Clifton. He owned several properties along Chase Creek Street and at this site he built the only three-story building in town. Destroyed by the fire of 1913, he had it rebuilt as this magnificent two-story structure. It has housed a grocery store, the Italian consulate, a mercantile and the El Ray bar.
