On July 25, 1889, the municipal council of Céret votes a credit of 500 francs to celebrate the inauguration of the station3. The first train entered the station on the morning of August 83.
Céret station was put into service on August 18 by the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Midi et du Canal lateral à la Garonne, when it opened the 24 km section from Elne to Céret of its line from Elne to Arles-sur-Tech It became a transit station when the next 11 km section from Céret to Arles-sur-Tech opened on 26 June 18985.
In the 1950s, the station facilities had 6 tracks6 and extended over 4 hectares
