The Queen Anne style Reading Station of the MBTA was built in 1845 and rebuilt in 1870 for the Boston and Maine Railroad. The station was purchased by Reading in 1960 for use as a railroad museum. In 1973 the MBTA purchased the depot and it now serves as a stop on the Haverhill Line as part of the metropolitan Boston commuter rail service. The station again rebuilt around 1991. There a single track on the east (High Street) side which serves both northbound and southbound traffic.

The Boston and Maine Railroad Depot is eight bays wide and two bays deep with an office entrance at the fifth bay of the Lincoln Street side. Each bay is separated by a square wooden pole that is braced near the top and used to support the hip roof which overhangs the station platform. The platform has two levels. The south side of the platform is at ground level. Separated by a fence is a raised platform on the north end of the station. The east side has one commercial business, a bakery.
