The reference mark is located just to the northeast and downhill from the station mark. It is set in the top of a granite outcrop, just short of 600 feet west of Hermosa Road. The station and its reference marks can be reached via Exit 329 on I-80 (travel south on Monument Road and take a right [west] turn on Hermosa Road before reaching Ames Monument). Alternatively, the marks can be reached by turning east onto Hermosa Road from US 287.
