Many pubs in the UK have a name associated with royalty, but at first glance the sign seems to have no connection with royalty.
Every race horse owner has a specific set of colours for their jockeys so they can easily be identified during the race.
The monarchs in the UK traditionally have their own race horses and hence their own colours. Queen Elizabeth II was particularly keen on horse racing and was a very successful horse breeder.
The pub sign displays the colours of her jockeys. She inherited the colours from her father King George VI, and they have been passed on to King Charles III.
The colours are Purple body with gold braid, Scarlet sleeves and Black velvet cap with gold fringe.
