Sitka, founded in 1909, was one of many railroad water stop towns, from a time when steam locomotives could only travel twenty miles or so before requiring a refill. The AT&SF no longer runs (the tracks were taken up long ago) but the grain elevator is still here. The ruins of the Siska Social Club are nearby.
