En 1924 la administración pisana anunció el concurso para la construcción del Palazzo delle Poste cuyo diseño fue adjudicado a los ingenieros Federigo Severini y Giulio Buoncristiani . Las obras, iniciadas poco después, fueron realizadas por la empresa Bianchi. El edificio se inauguró el 28 de octubre de 1929 : al mismo tiempo se inició la nueva ordenación de la plaza (demolición de las palmeras y plátanos y su sustitución por pinos marítimos, demolición del gran estanque con la fuente así como del suave quioscos de bebidas y frutas no considerados adecuados a la nueva realidad urbana) y, de nuevo en 1929 , se proyecta la construcción de un edificio Littorio, contiguo a la oficina de correos, sustituido posteriormente por eledificio de la administración provincial , también construido según un diseño de Severini.
El edificio se caracteriza por un léxico revivalista, curioso y libre de contaminación de neorrománico y neogótico , y tiene una planta y un volumen articulados, desarrollados en tres plantas sobre rasante. Sin embargo, esta articulación es mucho más marcada en el reverso que en los frentes principales.
En la prensa de la época ( La Nazione octubre 1929, p.3) se elogia el edificio por su carácter histórico que " constituye en su estilo pisano una obra de arte que honra nuestra ciudad.

In 1924 the Pisan administration announced the competition for the construction of the Palazzo delle Poste whose design was awarded to the engineers Federigo Severini and Giulio Buoncristiani. The works, started shortly after, were carried out by the Bianchi company. The building was inaugurated on October 28, 1929: at the same time the redevelopment of the square began (demolition of the palm and banana trees and their replacement by maritime pines, demolition of the large pond with the fountain as well as the soft drink kiosks and fruits not considered adequate to the new urban reality) and, again in 1929, the construction of a Littorio building was projected, next to the post office, later replaced by the provincial administration building, also built according to a design by Severini .
The building is characterized by a revivalist, curious and uncontaminated vocabulary of Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic, and has an articulated plan and volume, developed on three floors above ground. However, this articulation is much more marked on the reverse than on the main fronts.
In the press of the time (La Nazione October 1929, p.3) the building is praised for its historical character that "constitutes in its Pisan style a work of art that honors our city.
