Caroline Church was organized in 1723. Originally named Christ Church, the name was changed to Caroline Church of Brookhaven to honor Queen Caroline of England. The Anglican mission grew enough to build the church which was consecrated on January 25, 1729. The wooden church stands today on its original location overlooking the Setauket Village Green. The 300-year history started with its loyalty to the Church of England, witness to the birth of the United States of America and a parish worshipping in the Episcopal tradition into the 21st Century. The Church and Cemetery were listed on the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places in 2001.
