The current Bernard BLIER Theatre was built in the former halles at the end of the 19th century. Renovated at various times, its vocation today is to host a wide range of amateur and professional theatrical companies.
With a capacity of 338 seats, in parterre and balcony configuration, the Salle Jean Renoir has a 130m² stage area, refurbished to meet the different requirements of live performance.

À la fin du XIXe siècle, la municipalité de Pontarlier envisage de se doter d'une salle des fêtes. Elle est soutenue dans sa démarche par les autorités militaires qui souhaitent voir leurs troupes en exercice à Pontarlier fréquenter d'autres établissements que les débits de boissons pontissaliens.
Le projet de l'architecte Chopard, inauguré le 21 octobre 1900, prévoyait l'aménagement d'une vaste salle au-dessus de la halle au blé pouvant accueillir jusqu'à 1 500 personnes. Avec l'apparition du cinéma, cette salle est utilisée régulièrement pour des projections. À la suite d'un incendie en 1907 au cours d'une séance, la salle des fêtes se voit interdite de cinéma. Elle est alors presque exclusivement réservée aux représentations théâtrales et musicales, conférences, réunions publiques et bals. Fermé durant quelques années, le théâtre ouvre à nouveau ses portes en 1978 après avoir été agrandi et transformé. Il dispose désormais de deux salles : l'ancienne halle, baptisée salle Toussaint-Louverture, et la salle primitive, nommée salle Sa façade, caractéristique du XIXe siècle, a conservé triangulaire orné de différentes sculptures symboliques. Autour des armoiries de la ville figurent des éléments empruntés l'Antiuité évoquant le rôle commercial de la ville : ancres, cornes d'abondance, trident de Neptune, casque à q caducée et de Mercure... Restauré en 1997, il prend le nom de Théâtre Bernard Blier en hommage à l'acteur attaché à Pontarlier pour des raisons familiales.

At the end of the 19th century, the municipality of Pontarlier was considering the construction of a village hall. This move was supported by the military authorities, who wanted their troops serving in Pontarlier to frequent establishments other than Pontarlier's drinking establishments.
Architect Chopard's project, inaugurated on October 21, 1900, called for the construction of a vast hall above the wheat hall, capable of seating up to 1,500 people. With the advent of cinema, this room was regularly used for screenings. Following a fire in 1907 during a screening, the village hall was closed to cinema. It was then almost exclusively reserved for theatrical and musical performances, conferences, public meetings and balls. Closed for a few years, the theater reopened in 1978 after being enlarged and transformed. It now has two auditoriums: the former hall, known as the Salle Toussaint-Louverture, and the original auditorium, known as the Salle de l'Arche. Its facade, typical of the 19th century, is triangular in shape and decorated with various symbolic sculptures. The city's coat of arms is surrounded by elements borrowed from Antiuité, evoking the city's commercial role: anchors, horns of plenty, Neptune's trident, a helmet with a caduceus and Mercury... Restored in 1997, it was renamed Théâtre Bernard Blier in tribute to the actor, who was attached to Pontarlier for family reasons.
