"The church of Santa Maria de Castellar de n'Hug is located in the center of the town of Castellar de N'hug in the Catalan region of Bergadá.

Documented in the 10th century, in the act of consecration of the Seo de Urgel. Hug de Mataplana and his wife Elisenda, in the year 1229, took the church under their protection and provided it with various assets, as well as having an altar dedicated to Saint Michael built. In the year 1376 it depended on the baronesses of Pinós. It had as its suffragary, in the 18th century, the church of Sant Vicenç de Rus.

At present, little of the Romanesque building is preserved, being basically neoclassical in style. The bell tower is the most prominent element of what remains of the medieval construction, it has a square tower with four floors, in its lower part it has a large window with a semicircular arch, which corresponds to the Romanesque, from the second floor onwards. It is from a later period.

Next to the bell tower, on the south wall, the entrance door opens with medieval ironwork."
