On January 10th, 1475, Stephen the Great led a battle against a powerful Ottoman army. The army was led by Soleman Pasha, the emissary of Mohammed II, also known as the Conqueror of Constantinople. The battle went down in history as the "Battle of the High Bridge".
The statue is located in the village of Bacauani in the south of the city of Vaslui on the Bârlad river valley, also here the battle took place, it is 6.9 m and 19 tons, it is made of bronze and is placed on an 8m plinth.
In front of it is an eternal flame powered by methane gas, and at the base are placed two bronze frescoes. In one, a scene is represented in which the voivode of Moldavia, Stephen the Great, is among the common people. And in the other he is depicted receiving the message from the Turks.
