The Siege Bell is a War memorial and and is located on the lower part of St. Christopher Bastion. Here is a view over the harbor and Valletta city.

Due to its important geographical location between Italy and Africa, Malta played a key role for both the Allies and the Axis powers during World War II. The island was one of the most heavily bombed areas during World War II, and more than 7,000 soldiers and civilians were killed there.

In 1942, Malta was awarded the George Cross by King George VI to recognize the heroism of its inhabitants. In honor of the 50th anniversary of this award, this memorial was built and unveiled by Queen Elizabeth.
