The first Court House in Pike County was made of logs and built in the town of Zebulon in 1833. Later the town name was changed to Murfreesborough, it has remained the county seat to this day.
Pike County was named after Zebulon Montgomery Pike. Zebulon M. Pike explored much of the northwest area of the Lousiana Territory and later moved West. He is believed to be the first white man to climb Pikes Peak, which was also named after him.
