Crystal Shrine Grotto is advertised as "the only man-made crystal cave in the world."
Sitting in the middle of Memorial Park cemetery just outside Nashville, TN, Crystal Shrine Grotto began in 1935 and was designed and built by Mexican Artist Señor Dionicio Rodriguez whose "el trabajo rustic," or rustic work had a look, sense, and feel of real stone and wood.

The cave entrance is Rodriguez's interpretation of the Cave of Machpelah. The cave was the tomb described in the Bible for Abraham and his family. Park owner E. Clovis Hinds wanted it to be represented in his cemetery because it was the first burial place mentioned in the Bible (Genesis 23).

"Hinds asked Rodriguez to make the Crystal Shrine Grotto to tell the journey of Jesus Christ from birth to resurrection. As you walk into the cave you hear peaceful music and see multi-colored lights shining on the crystals. The crystals were shipped to Memphis from Diamond Cave in Jasper, Arkansas. Throughout the cave are different sculpture scenes from Jesus’ life. The sculpture scenes were made by local Memphis artists Marie Craig, David Day, and Luther Hampton." (visit link)

Admission is free and Memorial Park and Crystal Shrine Grotto are open from Sunrise to Sunset.
