The Herr House is the oldest surviving structure in Lancaster County. It was built in 1719 by Christian Herr, and it served as the first Mennonite meeting house in the region. It was lived in until around 1900. It was purchased in 1969 by the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society, and the building and property underwent extensive renovations to return it to its original appearance.
The indoor museum on the property, the 1719 Museum, is open on Friday and Saturday from 10:00-16:00 from April to October. However, the grounds and outdoors portion of the museum are open dawn to dusk year round.
