This is one of the dwindling number of Carnegie Libraries that still operates as a Library. The building was constructed in 1904 by two local brick masons, Sidney Varnez and Silas Knowles, on land donated by Mrs. Emma Plummer. It was financed by a $10,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie. City hall formerly occupied the lower level but the Library now uses the entire building.
The Library is located by a small park area just north of Miner Street on the edge of the Idaho Springs Historic District.
