This church is on the first Catholic Church site in Oregon. The cornerstone for the structure was placed on May 24, 1846. The church was dedicated by
Archbishop Francis Norbert Blanchet on November 1, 1846. The brick building was built to replace a log structure, built in 1836 that had been destroyed by fire.
