On Wednesday, September 17, 1975, Marcia Elaine Jones Patterson, 46, was killed in Room #160 at a riverfront hotel. She had married Jackie Charles Patterson, 30, in November 1974 in Arizona. A couple months later she left him and returned to Vancouver. Employed as a waitress, she lived at 2802 E. 35th Street.He would make the trip from Arizona every so often to see her. They met for dinner at a downtown restaurant and then went to the hotel on Tuesday evening. There was an argument perhaps about the restraining order or the divorce that she had just filed. She died about 1:00am in a gun accident, shot twice in the chest. He put her body, wrapped in the hotel bedspread, in the trunk of his car, drove to the vicinity of 5th & Main streets, and abandoned the car (and the body). A .25 caliber pistol was found in Patterson's car. He was arrested, held on a second degree murder charge, and later found not guilty as the State did not prove its case. I gained access to the room's door by going through the lobby, turning right at the hallway and then turning right again.
