The dam began operating in 1930 and is 883 ft long. It has a reservoir which stores up to 2700 acre-feet of water. it is a two unit hydroelectric dam which has a generating capacity of 48 megawatts.

Morony dam is part fo the Great Falls Poratge National Historic Landmark.
