Fire Station #6 was built in 1911 in order to provide more adequate fire service to Roanoke’s Belmont neighborhood. This fire station was one of the first stations to receive motorized fire fighting vehicles. The building was designed to be compatible with the neighborhood architecture still blends in with other neighborhood building. Today the Old #6 Station no longer functions as a fire station, but remains an important part of the community, serving as a meeting place for the League of Older Americans and the Southeast Community Action Forum.
