This church was founded in 1831 as a Church of Christ. In 1869 a new church was built and moved here from Little Blue River. In 1907 the church changed from a Church of Christ to the current Hannegan Christian Church. Some members of the congregation opposed the change and left the church to form a new Church of Christ.
The adjoining cemetery is the final resting spot for many pioneer settlers of Rush County, although many of the older headstones are presently hard to read and could use a good cleaning.
