Since Lord Talbot was the Club’s first President, MLTCC later moved to its present site, known locally as ‘The Square’.
The Club then comprised a few grass courts and a small wooden pavilion and the Tennis was very much a summer activity, played between May and September.
The grass courts later gave way to tarmac which in turn were replaced by the present ‘artificial grass’, a surface suited to players at all levels.
Over the years, Club members and teams have won various local, provincial and national titles and others have gone on to international level. The Club, though, actively supports players of all standards and levels of experience.
The ultra modern clubhouse, with its extensive facilities, was opened in 1992. To maintain the high standards expected by the members, the facilities are constantly monitored and upgraded. The courts, for instance, have been re-surfaced when required.
While it is regarded as one of the country’s most modern and best equipped Tennis Clubs, MLTCC still proudly retains some of the traditions associated with the game, most notably the wearing of ‘whites’ during the summer months.....and gentlemen not hitting the first serve to hard to the ladies during mixed doubles matches!!
