Lock of IJmuiden form at IJmuiden the connection between the North sea canal and the North sea.
The locking complex exists from the “Zuidersluis” from 1876, the” Middensluis” from 1896, the “Noordersluis” from 1929.
For many years was the largest Noordersluis lock of Netherlands and Europe. The increase in the size of the ships, this lock has become a bottleneck for shipping to the Port of Amsterdam. The municipality of Amsterdam would like a new, bigger, the fourth sea lock to provide space for the growing shipping.
