Kenton's first library association formed in 1853, and brought guest speakers like Horace Mann to town. The association disbanded during the civil war, but a new library was formed in 1886. The library was supported by various fund raisers.
In 1902, the association received a grant from Andrew Carnegie, and a local resident donated the land on which to build. The library was dedicated in February of 1905. The interior featured reading rooms with fireplaces, and a white marble entryway. The library was open for 66 years until it was replaced by a newer building. The Hardin County Historical Society leased the building until 1983. In 1995, it was auctioned off. The building was renovated, and housed a hair salon for a while. It is now Kenton Dental Care, still "Open to All".
