Despite its horrific ordeal in the 1970s this church still bears a good Cut Mark on the western end.
This old church was once recorded in the Domesday Survey of 1086 but fell into disrepair after thieves stole the lead from the roofs in 1956 and 1964. Subsidence from the clay soil and its vulnerable position in the open countryside also contributed to its decline. It was declared redundant in 1972 and became even more vandalised and decayed.
In 1979 the Charity 'Friends of Friendless Churches' took the church under their wing and started to restore it. Stained glass windows had been stolen, monuments disappeared and wood worm had set in. The charity have done wonders in restoring and helping to stop the subsidence. The church has now been reopened.
