Built in 1844 by Samuel G. Hathaway, It is an imposing 2 1/2 story Greek revival style house constructed of field stone with walls two feet thick.
Samuel G. Hathaway settled first in Chenango County then moved Cincinnatus for a short time. He moved to Solon in 1819 and built this house in 1844. He represented Cortland County in the New York State Assembly in 1814 and 1818. he was elected to the State Senate in 1832. He was served as Justice of the Peace for 48 years. He was a member of the New York State Militia and rose through the ranks to Major-General.
