Orange County got its scouting roots in 1910 when the first Boy Scout Troop was formed. Ten years later in 1920, the Orange County Council was formed.
In 1943, the Orange County Council split. The northern communities formed the Northern Orange County Council, with headquarters in Anaheim and the southern area was renamed the Orange Empire Area Council. 1972 saw the councils merging together again to form the Orange County Council.
Today, the Orange County Council supports 10 districts each supporting multiple cub scout, boy scout and venturing crews. The council maintains four facilites for use by scouting programs; The Newport Sea Base , Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley, The Oso Lake Boy Scout Camp and The Outdoor Education Center.
