"The Village of Oak Lawn incorporated in 1909 and is located in southwestern Cook County, fifteen miles from Chicago’s Loop. It is a stable, family-oriented, middle-class suburb which developed from a modest farming community originally called Black Oaks Grove. However, growth to its present size was brought about by migrants from the south side of Chicago in the decades following World War II."
"The city has grown to more than 57,000 residents. Oak Lawn is primarily a commercial village with its major area encompassing a 24-block sector on 95th Street between Pulaski Avenue and Ridgeland Avenue."
