Corvallis Airport was originally a a grassy strip used for crop dusting. After the outbreak of WWII, the airport was upgraded and paved. It's primary mission was bomber crew training, but fears of a Japanese invasion made it a valuable air defense station. Currently the facility has no scheduled commercial traffic, but the private business is heavy, and this is also a major staging area for firefighting.
