This windmill provides some power for the visitor center at Malabar Farm State Park. It is a fitting application given its location.
Malabar Farm was owned by author Louis Bromfield from 1939 until his death in 1956. At Malabar farm he practiced conservatism, and developed new methods of sustainable farming which he taught to others.
The farm eventually ended up in the hands of the Ohio State Parks system. They decided to build a new visitor center here, and wanted to keep with Bromfield's traditions of conservation. The visitor center itself is made of many recycled materials, including carpeting, and ceiling tiles. In addition some of the power for the center comes from this A 1KW Burgey Wind Turbine, and solar panels.
More information about the visitor center and windmill can be found here. They also created a page which shows current live stats about the amount of energy being produced by the turbine, and the solar panels, and compares it to how much energy is being used by the visitor center. That information can be seen here.
The turbine is mounted on a 90' monopole. The rotor is just over 8' in diameter, and is capable of producing 1,800Kwh per year.
Coordinates were taken just north of the windmill at the closest point on a gravel path.
