Four bronze LIONS guard the equestrian statue of Gen. U.S. Grant at the east end of The Mall and about 0.1 miles west of the Capitol in Washington, DC. The Grant Memorial was dedicated in April, 1922. The sculpture group includes an equestrian statue of General Grant, a large group of figures representing the Artillery and another, the Cavalry, two bas-relief panels of Infantry, and four LIONS. All the figures appear to be about 1.5 times life-size, and all are bronze. The memorial is located along the west side of 1st Street, along the east side of the Reflecting Pool, about 100 yards south of the intersection of Pennsylvania Ave and 1st Street, and about 100 yards north of the intersection of Maryland Ave and 1st Street.
