In 1879 Calvin Hitchcock donated some land and the Honorable William Hyde donated $10,0000 to build a library for the town of Ware, MA. The building was designed by E. C. Gardner of Springfield, MA. It is made mostly of red brick and Portland brown stone. The architecture is a combination of Ruskinian Gothic and Old English styles. The building was dedicated July 19th, 1881.
In 1922 an addition was added and renovations were done in 1969 and 1973.
