This open spandrel deck arch was constructed of reinforced concrete in a design that is almost identical to the higher and longer famous Bixby Creek Bridge (about two miles south). The construction of Hwy 1 along the Big Sur coast in the 1930's required five major bridges to span previously uncrossable deep canyons, including this one at Rocky Creek.
