This former Civil War camp not only was a training facility, it also housed a prisoner-of-war camp for Confederate prisoners. Named after Salmon P. Chase, former Ohio governor and the Secretary of the Treasury during the Lincoln administration. The camp is located west of Columbus, Ohio, along the National Road. It held over 9,400 prisoners at its peak. Some of Morgan's Raiders were held here.
The cemetery holds the graves of 2,260 prisoners. The stature overlooks a field of stones, installed by an Act of Congress in 1906, giving them proper recognition as soldiers.
Light was fading fast the night I visited, so the picture is not the best.
