The Olive Thurlow was a three or four-masted schooner (accounts vary) used to transport cargo along the East Coast. The anchor of the Olive Thurlow (found at the posted coords) is all that's left of this ship from New York. In 1902, a Winter gale caused the Olive Thurlow to "break apart" while anchored off NC's shore at Cape Lookout (Now Cape Lookout National Seashore). One man was killed when a mast broke and fell on his head. The Captain and two other men were injured. A New York Times article from the time about the shipwreck can be found HERE All photos remain the property of the posting Waymarker. Please do not use these photos without permission.
