The Veterans Park Memorial in Veteran’s Park on West Arkansas Lane is a tribute to our veterans, their wives and families; especially those who have given their lives for our country. The citizens of the cities of Dalworthington Gardens, Pantego, and Arlington will be the only participants in this memorial.
Great Southwest Rotary established the Arlington Veterans Park Foundation to facilitate the development of the memorial. The Veterans Park Memorial Groundbreaking Ceremony was on Saturday, March 4. Over 100 veterans and citizens attended the ceremony. Special guests included Mayor Cluck, Councilwoman Kathryn Wilemon, State Representative Kent Grusendorf, Medal of Honor recipient Col. James L. Stone and family members of Spec.Russell Nahvi who was killed in Iraq.
The US Marine Corps Color Guard performed, as did area high school musicians. The crowd heard words of wisdom from Col. Stone, recognition of the Nahvi family and a simulated dynamite blast to break ground.
