Burks Chapel A.M.E. Church was organized in 1871 with 12 members. The church is named for its founder, Moses Burks. The first building for the church was built on the same site as the present church in 1874. The present church was built in 1911 under Reverend P.A. Nichols. The church is well maintained and has been renovated over the years but has retained its historic character.
